Tennessee HB1831 amends various sections of the Tennessee Code to enhance protections for personal identifying information obtained from governmental entities. The bill defines "personal identifying information" to include home and work addresses, telephone numbers, and social security numbers. It prohibits the use or sale of such information for commercial purposes without the individual's express authorization. Violations are classified as a Class B misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $500. The act takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
