Tennessee HB1815 modifies state law to permit jailers to decline accepting arrestees who require medical attention and were arrested for misdemeanors not involving crimes against people. If a jailer refuses an arrestee under these conditions, the arresting agency must have the arrestee evaluated by a healthcare provider. If the provider certifies the arrestee no longer needs medical attention or can be safely confined, the jailer must accept the arrestee. This act becomes effective July 1, 2026.
