This bill amends Tennessee law to classify aggravated burglary and aggravated criminal trespass as Class C felonies.

This bill amends Tennessee law to elevate the classification of aggravated burglary and aggravated criminal trespass to Class C felonies. Specifically, it changes the classification of aggravated criminal trespass from a Class C misdemeanor to a Class C felony. The bill also modifies the definition of aggravated criminal trespass to include instances where the trespasser encounters the property owner using or displaying a firearm in self-defense. The changes take effect on July 1, 2026, and apply to acts occurring on or after that date.
