Tennessee HB1281 amends Tennessee Code to require criminal history records checks for instructors and staff of released time courses. Instructors and staff must submit to a check by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and agree to release the results to the independent entity conducting the course. Independent entities must then share these results with local educational agencies (LEA). LEAs must ensure no staff is in proximity to students unless they undergo the check and notify parents or guardians of the check results. The act takes effect July 1, 2025.
