HB1175

AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 13; Title 49; Title 68 and Title 71, relative to child care.

Complete·4/29/25

Amends Tennessee law to redefine child care family homes, regulate their zoning, and establish rights for charter schools and child care agencies.

This bill amends Tennessee law to redefine a "child care family home" as a setting where a caregiver provides child care in a family residence or a homelike environment. It requires local governing authorities to treat these homes as residential property for zoning, land use development, fire and life safety, sanitation, and building codes. The bill also establishes rights for charter schools and child care agencies to purchase or lease underutilized or vacant property from local education agencies at fair market value.
