Amends Tennessee Code to provide grants for after school programs in counties with high juvenile offense rates.
This bill amends Tennessee Code to establish a grant program for local education agencies (LEAs) to provide after school programs for eligible students. Eligible LEAs must be in counties where the juvenile offense rate is at least 10% higher than the statewide average. The Department of Education will allocate grants based on the number of eligible students. LEAs can use the grants to expand existing programs, create new ones, or partner with eligible nonprofits. Grant recipients must submit annual reports detailing program activities and outcomes. The bill takes effect July 1, 2025.
