HB0689

AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 40, Chapter 32, relative to expungements.

Introduced·2/3/25

Authorizes automatic expungement processing in Tennessee counties with a population of 366,200 or more.

This bill amends Tennessee law to allow court clerks in counties with a population of 366,200 or more to implement an automatic expungement processing program. This program initiates the expungement of public records without a petition, certification, or court order for eligible individuals. Court clerks will notify other agencies and officials of expungements, which will be treated as court orders. Court clerks will maintain confidential records of expunged cases accessible only to the person, law enforcement, courts, and governmental agencies performing official functions.
