HB0596

AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 4, Chapter 3; Section 10-7-504 and Title 39, Chapter 17, Part 13, relative to the "Tennessee Voluntary Do Not Sell Firearms Act."

Failed·3/18/26

Establishes the Tennessee Voluntary Do Not Sell Firearms Act, allowing individuals to opt-out of firearm possession.

The Tennessee Voluntary Do Not Sell Firearms Act allows individuals to file a voluntary waiver of firearm rights form with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI). This form prohibits the individual from possessing or purchasing firearms. The TBI enters the form into the national instant criminal background check system and other federal or state databases. A person who knowingly receives or possesses a firearm while the waiver is in effect faces a civil fine. The individual can revoke the waiver after 21 days, allowing them to possess firearms again.
