Amends Tennessee compensation law for wrongfully imprisoned individuals to include those with vacated sentences.
This bill amends Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 9-8-108, to expand compensation eligibility for wrongfully imprisoned individuals. It includes those whose sentences were vacated due to actual innocence, in addition to those granted exoneration. It allows one year from the act's effective date for filing claims. Upon the claimant's death, remaining payments are distributed to the surviving spouse and children. If the spouse dies or remarries, the child's share increases.
