HB0505

AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 49 and Chapter 994 of the Public Acts of 2024, relative to school safety alert grants.

Introduced·1/29/25

Establishes a school safety alert grant program for LEAs, public charter schools, private schools, and church-related schools to purchase mobile.

The bill amends Tennessee law to establish a school safety alert grant program administered by the Department of Education. The program awards grants to local education agencies, public charter schools, private schools, and church-related schools for purchasing mobile panic alert systems. The systems must be approved by the Department of Education in consultation with the Department of Safety. The program operates on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to different grand divisions of the state. Grants are capped at $8,000 per school per fiscal year.
