Tennessee HB0473 amends Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 18; Title 38, Chapter 6; Title 39 and Title 40, Chapter 35, to mandate the collection of DNA samples from individuals arrested for felony offenses occurring on or after July 1, 2025. The arresting authority must collect the biological specimen using a buccal swab before the person's release from custody. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation will maintain the sample and destroy it if the charges are dismissed or the defendant is acquitted, provided no other qualifying warrants or capias are pending.
