HB0313

AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 8-25-213 and Title 8, Chapter 36, Part 8, relative to reemployment after retirement.

Complete·5/2/25

Tennessee HB0313 amends retirement laws to allow retirees to return to service temporarily under certain conditions.

Tennessee HB0313 amends Tennessee Code to allow retired members of the state retirement system to return to service temporarily without losing their retirement benefits. This applies to retirees of local retirement funds as well. The bill specifies that retirees can only return to service if they had a bona fide separation of service, meaning there was no prearranged agreement for future employment at the time of retirement. Retirees can work up to 120 days per year, or 24 quarter credit hours or 18 semester credit hours if they are substitute teachers.
