South Dakota SB9 amends the notification requirements for excavators before beginning any excavation. Excavators must notify the one-call notification center at least forty-eight hours before starting, excluding weekends and holidays. If excavation is within eighteen inches of an underground facility, excavators must expose the facility using hand tools or noninvasive methods and protect it before using mechanical equipment. Operators must mark the location of underground facilities within eighteen inches of the excavation area.
