Defines nonpublic school in South Dakota and outlines its characteristics and limitations.
South Dakota SB187 defines a nonpublic school as an institution under the supervision of a governing body other than a publicly-elected board, created to instruct children in mathematics and other subjects. Nonpublic schools are ineligible for state aid, may be accredited but are not required to be, and teachers need not be certified if the school is not accredited. They can limit enrollment, charge tuition, receive federal or state grants, and receive services from a school district. Instruction in English must lead to mastery of the language.
