This bill establishes gold and silver specie as legal tender in South Dakota, effective July 1, 2027. It allows for the use of gold and silver specie in the payment of debts, taxes, fees, and other obligations, provided the state or political subdivision agrees to accept it. The state treasurer is tasked with establishing a bullion depository for secure storage of gold and silver specie, and authorizing an electronic payment system that uses these metals as the basis for transactions.
