Introduced·1/29/26
Introduced Text

Exempts active volunteer firefighters from certain motor vehicle registration fees in South Dakota.

South Dakota HB1203 allows active volunteer firefighters to apply for an exemption from license fees for noncommercial vehicles. To qualify, firefighters must submit a certification from their fire department's chief. The exemption applies to one vehicle and can be renewed annually. It does not cover the excise tax on vehicle purchases. The county treasurer records approved exemptions and shares the information with the Department of Revenue.
