Introduced·1/28/26

Provides a property tax credit for nonpublic school tuition and related expenses.

Property owners in South Dakota can receive a tax credit for education expenses related to their children's nonpublic school tuition and other educational costs. Eligible expenses include tuition, fees, textbooks, therapies, and transportation. The credit is limited to the lesser of 80 percent of the total school district taxes owed or $1,000 per child per year. The credit is applied to the property tax bill sent to the taxpayer. The Department of Revenue will establish rules for filing and processing tax credit requests.
