Introduced·1/27/26
Introduced Text

Clarifies licensure requirements for certified social workers in private, independent practice and establishes an alternative to the licensure.

This bill amends the licensure requirements for certified social workers in private, independent practice in South Dakota. It sets standards for professional practice, eligibility, continuing education, supervision, and examination. The bill also establishes an alternative to the licensure examination, allowing applicants who have failed the exam to submit evidence of three thousand hours of professional experience. Those who obtain licensure through this alternative are not eligible to participate in the Social Work Licensure Compact. The changes take effect January 1, 2027.
