Introduced·5/5/26
Introduced Text

South Carolina Speed Safety Act of 2026 establishes speed-safety systems in school and construction zones.

The South Carolina Speed Safety Act of 2026 introduces speed-safety systems in school and construction zones. These systems, which use scanning lidar sensors, record images of vehicles exceeding speed limits by at least five miles per hour. Local agencies must publish notices of these systems and ensure signs in school and construction zones indicate their use. Speed-safety systems can only operate Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Operators must complete manufacturer-specific training and maintain a set-up log.
