Stop Harm from Addictive Social Media Act regulates social media platforms to protect children.

The Stop Harm from Addictive Social Media Act mandates social media platforms to estimate and verify the age of account holders, especially those under sixteen. It requires platforms to set default privacy settings for children and obtain verifiable parental consent before allowing children to create accounts. The act prohibits addictive interface features for children and mandates parental controls for child accounts. It also allows children and parents to sue for violations, including harm to mental health and emotional distress. The act takes effect on January 1, 2027.
