S.1020

Lexington County School Board Partisan Elections

Chamber Passed·3/19/26

Lexington County School Board trustees in districts 1, 2, and 4 to be elected on a partisan basis starting in 2028.

The bill mandates that starting in 2028, members of the boards of trustees for Lexington County School Districts 1, 2, and 4 must be elected through partisan elections. Current members elected on a nonpartisan basis who have terms expiring after 2028 will continue to serve but must declare their political affiliation. The bill does not prevent current nonpartisan trustees from running as partisan candidates. All other election laws, except those concerning nonpartisan elections, will remain in effect.
