The South Carolina Fostering Futures Act requires public institutions of higher education to waive tuition and fees for certain current and former foster youth. Eligibility criteria include being under 25 years old and having been in the legal custody of the Department of Social Services before age 18, currently in extended foster care, adopted from foster care at age 13 or later, or in foster care for three or more cumulative years. The waiver applies to tuition and fees only, not room, board, books, or nonmandatory institution-specific fees.
