South Carolina bill exempts drivers from liability if they unintentionally cause injury or death while fleeing a mob or riot.

South Carolina S0738 amends the state code to exempt motor vehicle operators from criminal and civil liability if they unintentionally cause injury or death while fleeing from a mob or riot, provided they exercised due care. Injured parties or the estates of deceased individuals can seek actual and punitive damages in civil court against individual rioters or organizations involved in the mob or riot. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
