The South Carolina Emergency Fuel Supply Act requires new fuel stations built after January 1, 2025, within a half mile of evacuation routes or on primary highways to install wiring for backup generators. Existing stations near such routes need wiring only if undergoing significant renovations. By January 1, 2026, chain fuel stations with ten or more locations in South Carolina must also install generator wiring and have a working generator ready within 24 hours of an emergency declaration. Noncompliant stations face fines and penalties.
