S.0269

Private Security Services in Public Schools

Complete·5/19/25

South Carolina S0269 allows public school districts with over 15,000 students to hire armed security personnel for campus safety.

South Carolina S0269 amends state law to permit public school districts with more than 15,000 students to employ armed security personnel on campus. These personnel must be licensed by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and registered as security officers. The bill also mandates that school districts with such security personnel must have a dedicated security and emergency management division, and a written agreement with local law enforcement for joint training. The provisions do not affect the requirement for school districts to use school resource officers.
