Introduced·1/14/25
Introduced Text

Changes to South Carolina birth certificates allow only gender changes from male to female or female to male under specific conditions.

This bill amends South Carolina law to restrict changes to birth certificates to gender changes from male to female or female to male. Changes are allowed to correct clerical errors or for individuals born with a medically verifiable disorder of sex development within twelve months of birth. The petition process requires a certification from the State Registrar of Vital Statistics and a hearing must be held.
