South Carolina S0144 allows firefighters to transport patients in non-ambulance vehicles during emergencies.

South Carolina S0144 amends the state code to exempt firefighters from certain provisions when transporting patients in emergencies. Firefighters can use vehicles other than ambulances if licensed ambulances are insufficient or unavailable. This applies when firefighters arrive before emergency medical service providers and a patient needs urgent care. The bill also exempts certain vehicles and personnel assisting in disasters or catastrophes. The act takes effect upon the Governor's approval.
