Introduced·1/14/25
Introduced Text

Bill S0134 would allow the South Carolina State Board of Education to include the Bible in its academic standards for certain history and literature.

Bill S0134 proposes to amend the South Carolina Code of Laws by adding a section that authorizes the State Board of Education to develop and adopt academic standards incorporating the Bible into its curriculum for world history, the history of western civilization, United States history, South Carolina history, and literature. The standards must emphasize the Bible's influence on history and literature, remain objective and nondevotional, avoid religious doctrine or sectarian interpretation, and not disparage or encourage commitment to religious beliefs.
