Telecommunication Location Information

Chamber Passed·4/30/25

Wireless service providers must provide location information to law enforcement agencies in emergencies.

The bill mandates that wireless service providers furnish location information to law enforcement agencies upon request, provided the request is made during an emergency involving the risk of death or serious physical harm. It also stipulates that wireless service providers cannot be held liable for providing such information in good faith. The State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is tasked with obtaining contact information from all wireless service providers authorized to operate in South Carolina and disseminating this information to law enforcement agencies.
