Introduced·1/14/25
Introduced Text

Establishes policies and training for law enforcement officers regarding when and how to engage in vehicular pursuits.

The bill amends the South Carolina Code to require the South Carolina Law Enforcement Training Council to establish policies, procedures, and training courses for law enforcement officers. These courses must cover when officers may engage in vehicular pursuits, which include situations involving violent crimes, sex offenses, DUI offenses, or when the driver poses an imminent threat to safety. Officers must consider alternatives to pursuit and must terminate the pursuit if certain conditions are not met.
