South Carolina H5741 bans public entities from entering into litigation retention agreements with law firms that employ members of the General.

South Carolina H5741 amends the state code to prohibit public entities from entering into, approving, renewing, extending, or materially amending litigation retention agreements with law firms that employ members of the General Assembly or their immediate family members. The prohibition applies during a member's tenure and for one year after they leave office. Additionally, covered law firms are barred from receiving any form of compensation from such agreements, including attorney's fees, contingency fees, referral fees, and expense reimbursements.
