Prohibits insurance discrimination based on HIV status and HIV prevention treatment.
This bill amends South Carolina law to prohibit insurers from discriminating against individuals based on HIV status or the use of HIV prevention treatment. Insurers cannot use HIV status, age, marital status, or other factors to predict future HIV development or deny coverage. Insurers also cannot use HIV prevention treatment when setting rates or premiums. The Director of Insurance can review positive test results and request public health advice. The act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
