Penalties for Violating Employment Citizenship Requirements

Introduced·2/26/26
Introduced Text

Increases penalties for private employers violating employment citizenship requirements in South Carolina.

This bill amends South Carolina's employment citizenship requirements, increasing penalties for private employers who violate these rules. For a first violation, employers must be placed on probation for one year and submit quarterly reports to the director. A second violation results in a license suspension for at least 30 days. A third violation leads to license revocation and a five-year ban on reinstatement. Employers must also pay a reinstatement fee and terminate unauthorized employees. The director can extend the compliance period if necessary.
