This bill amends South Carolina law to prohibit the manufacture, sale, or distribution of artificial or cell-cultivated food products, commonly known as lab-grown meat. It mandates that such products must be clearly labeled to avoid misrepresentation as traditional animal protein. Violations of these provisions can result in misdemeanor charges, fines, and imprisonment. The Department of Agriculture is authorized to enforce these regulations, including the ability to revoke business licenses and issue stop-sale orders. This act does not apply to plant-based meat substitutes.
