Amends qualifications for probate judges in South Carolina, requiring a bachelor's degree or four years' experience in a probate judge's office.

This bill amends the qualifications for probate judges in South Carolina. It requires that a probate judge must have attained the age of twenty-five years upon election and be a licensed attorney in good standing or hire a staff attorney if not a licensed attorney. It also mandates that a judge must have a four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited post-secondary institution or have four years' experience as an employee in a probate judge's office. These provisions do not apply to probate judges currently serving. The changes take effect upon approval by the Governor.
