South Carolina Student Physical Privacy Act mandates single-sex restrooms and changing facilities in public schools and higher learning institutions.
The South Carolina Student Physical Privacy Act requires public schools and institutions of higher learning to designate restrooms and changing facilities for use by only one sex. It prohibits individuals from entering facilities designated for the opposite sex unless they are members of that sex. The act also mandates that students not be required to share sleeping quarters or multioccupancy restrooms with members of the opposite sex unless they are family members. Exceptions are made for custodial or maintenance work, medical assistance, and emergencies.
