Barbers

Chamber Passed·2/25/26

Barbers in South Carolina no longer need to complete an apprenticeship to obtain a license.

This bill amends the South Carolina Code to change the requirements for barber licensure. Specifically, it removes the requirement for a person to practice as a registered apprentice for twelve months under the direct supervision of a registered barber. Instead, the board will issue a certificate of registration to a person who meets the age requirement, passes a physical examination, and passes the registered barber examination. The examination must assess the applicant's skill in performing all duties associated with barbering, including tool preparation and shaving.
