This bill amends the qualifications for sheriff candidates in South Carolina to include educational and experience alternatives. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, residents of the county for at least a year, and meet one of the following: a high school diploma and five years of Class 1 law enforcement experience, an associate degree and three years of experience, a baccalaureate degree and one year of experience, or ten years as a summary court judge. Candidates must also be fingerprinted and have their records checked by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
