This bill amends South Carolina law to expand the civil jurisdiction of magistrate courts to include certain actions where the damages claimed do not exceed $7,515. It also revises the process for reviewing candidates for magistrate positions, requiring the Judicial Merit Selection Commission to review candidates in the same manner as other judicial candidates. The commission's report on a candidate's qualifications is sent to the Senate and Governor before the Governor's appointment.
