Establishes guaranteed immediate mental health crisis access for veterans in South Carolina, including same-day care and mobile crisis response teams.
The Veteran Suicide and Mental Health Crisis Response Act aims to address the high rates of veteran suicide in South Carolina by creating guaranteed immediate mental health crisis access. It mandates that each county designate at least one location for same-day behavioral health crisis assessment and stabilization for veterans, open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day and accepting Medicaid. The Department of Mental Health, in coordination with the Department of Veterans' Affairs, will establish Mobile Veteran Crisis Response Teams to provide in-person crisis care.
