Residency Requirements

Introduced·1/13/26
Introduced Text

Military families in South Carolina can enroll their children in their intended school district with flexibility in residency requirements.

This bill amends South Carolina's residency requirements for school enrollment to provide flexibility for military families. It allows students to enroll in the school district they intend to reside in, even if they do not physically reside there. Parents or guardians must provide proof of residency within 60 days of the school year's end or one year from the reporting-for-duty or separation date, whichever is longer. High school juniors and seniors can remain in their current school until graduation despite changes in residency.
