Personal Needs Allowance

Introduced·2/11/25
Introduced Text

Increases the personal needs allowance for nursing home residents in South Carolina.

The bill amends South Carolina law to increase the personal needs allowance for nursing home residents. It specifies that the allowance can be used for personal hygiene items, clothing, and other personal expenses. Nursing homes cannot require residents to use their allowance for food or social activities. The allowance will be adjusted annually based on economic trends and will be disregarded as an asset for Medicaid eligibility purposes. The allowance must be at least $100 per month and is in addition to other personal care allowances.
