Introduced·1/30/25
Introduced Text

Requires boat and nonmotorized floating structure owners in South Carolina to maintain liability insurance and provide vessel surveys.

This bill amends South Carolina law to require boat and nonmotorized floating structure owners to maintain a liability insurance policy with a minimum coverage of one hundred thousand dollars. Boat owners must provide a recent vessel survey declaring the boat seaworthy and capable of moving under its own power. Sailboats must have working sails, and powerboats must have a working motor. The survey must be completed within six months of the policy issuance by a licensed boat surveyor. Nonmotorized floating structures must also have a recent vessel survey declaring the structure seaworthy.
