South Carolina H3841 amends the state's property tax laws to ensure that properties continue to receive special assessment rates and tax exemptions when the owner dies. The special assessment rate remains at four percent until the estate is closed, a deed is recorded, or December 31 of the year following the owner's death, whichever comes first. Similarly, property tax exemptions continue until the estate is closed, a deed is recorded, or December 31 of the year following the owner's death, unless the property is rented for over 72 days or changes use.
