Introduced·1/14/25
Introduced Text

South Carolina bill H3533 amends assault and battery laws to increase penalties for injuring public servants.

South Carolina bill H3533 amends Section 16-3-600 to classify assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature as a felony. This applies when the act results in great bodily injury, is likely to cause death or great bodily injury, or targets a law enforcement officer, corrections officer, firefighter, or EMS worker during their duties. The bill specifies that such offenses are lesser-included offenses of attempted murder. The changes do not affect pending actions or liabilities under previous laws.
