South Carolina H3465 provides a tax credit for grocers opening new locations in food deserts.
South Carolina H3465 introduces a tax credit for grocers who open new locations in food deserts. A food desert is defined as an area where at least 33% of the population lives more than a mile from a grocery store or supermarket. Grocers can claim a tax credit equal to 10% of the total costs incurred in establishing the new location, to be claimed over three years. Additionally, grocers operating new stores in food deserts are exempt from sales tax on certain purchases. The bill amends the South Carolina Code of Laws to include these provisions.
