Introduced Text

Increases the age of a child under homicide by child abuse from under the age of eleven to under the age of eighteen.

This bill amends the South Carolina Code to increase the age of a child under homicide by child abuse from under the age of eleven to under the age of eighteen. It defines "child abuse or neglect" as causing harm to a child's physical health or welfare, including physical injury, failure to supply adequate necessities, or abandonment. The bill specifies that a person is guilty of homicide by child abuse if they cause a child's death under the age of eighteen while committing child abuse or neglect, under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to human life, or knowingly aid and abet.
