Introduced·1/14/25
Introduced Text

South Carolina Rent Control Act restricts rent increases for residential tenancies.

The South Carolina Rent Control Act limits how landlords can raise rent for residential tenancies. It requires landlords to provide written notice at least seven days prior to increasing rent for week-to-week tenancies. For other tenancies, rent cannot increase during the first year without at least ninety days' notice. Rent cannot increase more than seven percent plus the consumer price index in any twelve-month period. Landlords violating these rules are liable to tenants for three months' rent plus damages.
