The term "great bodily injury" is defined as bodily injury that creates a substantial risk of death, causes serious, permanent disfigurement, or protracted loss or impairment of a bodily member or organ. The penalties for such violations are outlined in Section 56-5-6190. This act will take effect upon approval by the Governor.
