South Carolina H3155 regulates the use of automatic license plate reader systems by law enforcement and other entities.

South Carolina H3155 amends the state code to define terms and regulate the use of automatic license plate reader systems. These systems can be used by law enforcement agencies for data comparison, by parking enforcement entities for regulating parking, for controlling access to secured areas, and by the Department of Public Safety and the Department of Transportation for commercial vehicle compliance. The captured data must not be used or shared for any other purpose and must be destroyed after ninety days unless part of an ongoing investigation.
